National Street Welfare Facility

The train yard located south of National Street was designed to accommodate 115 train cars on five through yard tracks. The welfare building is a 4,000 square foot facility designed for use by the trainmen and engineers, maintenance of way workers and mechanical personnel. The design provided for a parking area for 100 personnel, standby power for the trains in layover and a gasoline fueling facility. The irregular elevations of the site required the placement of over 2,000 linear feet of retaining walls to contain the required fill material within the parcel limits.
