Schaumburg Commuter Station

Knight provided a review of the existing station complex to determine a modernization strategy. The approved station motif is “Prairie Style” with building materials chosen to relate to and knit together the surrounding architecture. The interior of the new 3,600 SF depot is comprised of quarry tile flooring, brick and structural glazed tile walls and exposed wood roof deck and heavy timber trusses. The linear building plan places the waiting area and loggias in a distributed layout along the tracks. A tower element serves as a visual identifier of the ticket agent’s office and as a platform for concealing mechanical equipment.
