401st Tactical Fighter Wing Air Base | U.S. Navy

Knight was responsible for the base comprehensive planning services to relocate the 401st Tactical Fighter Wing and its supporting units from an existing base in Spain to a new base in Italy. The base design incorporated four functional land use layers: airfield, industrial, town center and family housing. Knight’s services included an existing conditions survey, development plan, environmental review and architectural and engineering design guides. In addition, facility criteria packages were developed for more than 100 buildings, as well as a 3-D computer model of the base comprehensive plan. Highlights of the base comprehensive plan included: investigation of existing natural, built and socio-cultural environments; development and evaluation of alternative base concepts; utility analysis, sizing and location; environmental review; cost estimates and scheduling; digital mapping, computer-generated floor plans and 3-D modeling.
