Chicago Streetscape Program | Chicago Department of Transportation

Knight has provided architectural and engineering services on a variety of streetscape and median improvement projects for the Chicago Department of Transportation. Our work includes more than 15 streetscape and median improvements in the City of Chicago and a streetscape plan along a 1/2 mile section of Harlem Avenue in connection with the construction of Toyota Park, the new Chicago Fire soccer stadium in the Village of Bridgeview, Illinois. Knight understands the importance of maintaining the unique identity of each community or neighborhood. Before beginning any streetscape design project, Knight meets with local residents and community leaders to develop community identifiers, which are then built into our design. Knight continues to provide community involvement services throughout the life of the project. Knight’s streetscapes are designed to safely accommodate all modes of transportation and incorporate traffic calming elements, including roundabouts, and other modifications to roadway geometry to improve vehicular, pedestrian and bicyclist safety.
