Fermi Lab LBNE Convention Facilities | US Department of Energy

Knight is providing support in developing preliminary design drawings used to develop a programming phase cost to secure US Department of Energy funding for Long-Baseline Neutrino Experiment Conventional Facilities. The facilities will explore the interactions and transformations of the world’s highest-intensity neutrino beam by sending it from Fermilab more than 1,000 kilometers straight through the earth to the proposed Deep Underground Science and Engineering Laboratory in South Dakota. Knight is preparing preliminary site grading for three support buildings and cooling water ponds, conceptual roadway drainage, preliminary layout of utilities (water, cooling water, sewer), temporary re-route of existing roadways, preliminary cost estimate for the construction of the beam’s tunnel enclosure located approximately 35 feet below ground, and value engineering retaining wall systems required to support existing buildings along the beam corridor.
