IL 59 from Ferry Road to South of Aurora Ave. | Illinois Department of Transportation

Knight provided Phase II engineering services to the Illinois Department of Transportation for the improvement 3.5 miles of IL 59 from Ferry Road to south of Aurora Avenue in DuPage County. The project included a new Diverging Diamond Interchange at IL 59 and I-88 (Reagan Tollway) and the widening/reconstruction of IL 59 providing 3-12 foot lanes in each direction separated by a 30 foot barrier median. The project was constructed under several separate construction contracts that included advance work for the construction of a new storm water pumping station at the BNSF Railroad/Metra underpass. The pump station included a four pump system with one - 1000 gpm low flow pump and three - 3000 gpm main pumps. Knight also designed a new storm sewer system throughout to accommodate the wider new pavement cross section incorporating extensive in-line storm water detention particularly in advance of the new pump station and immediately upstream of Wabaunsee Creek. The project required Section 404 permitting.
